Aim

Water pollution is one of the major problems that human face especially in heavily populated areas. Since the amounts of freshwaters cannot increase it is essential to maintain the current amounts in high quality. Through these courses methods to assess water quality will taught in the laboratory. In addition, the current national and EU standards and criteria (Based on the EU Water Directive) for water quality will be taught.

Learning Objectives

  • Comprehension of the various sources that can cause pollution to freshwater
  • The National and EU standards and criteria for water quality
  • Laboratory and field experience on how to measure different parameters for water quality

Learning Goals

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

  • Disseminate the importance of maintaining high water quality and reducing pollutants for human welfare
  • Measuring water quality parameters in the field and the laboratory
